Marko
A Markdown editor for the Mac with three editing modes on one document.
The short version
Marko is a Markdown editor for the Mac with three editing modes on one document: rendered text (WYSIWYG), live preview with the syntax visible, and raw source, switchable with ⌘1 / ⌘2 / ⌘3. Switching modes never rewrites the underlying file. It costs $9.99 once, on the Mac App Store.

What it does
- Three editing modes on one document, a keystroke apart. ⌘1 is rendered text with formatting symbols hidden, ⌘2 is live preview with the syntax still visible, ⌘3 is raw markdown. The source is never rewritten by a mode switch.
- Export to PDF, Word, OpenDocument, EPUB, LaTeX, MediaWiki and HTML, and import from the same formats. Pandoc ships inside the app, so export works offline on a machine with nothing else installed.
- Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX math render live in all three modes. draw.io files open and save in place.
- Tables with a floating editing toolbar and column widths that persist through round trips in other editors.
- Thirteen themes (Nord, Dracula, Tokyo Night, Gruvbox, Solarized, Rosé Pine, Everforest, Catppuccin and others), custom CSS, fifteen bundled fonts plus any font installed on the Mac.
- Folders and a file tree, outline panel, find and replace in every mode, source line numbers in every mode, live word/character/reading-time counts, focus mode, typewriter mode.
Privacy
No account, no subscription, no sync service. The app makes no automatic network requests at all, so there is no telemetry to opt out of. Files are ordinary .md documents on the user's disk.

The story
Every AI chat tool answers in markdown, and macOS opens those files as plain text — a wall of asterisks. Marko was built so that the markdown an AI hands you opens as a real document that anyone can edit without knowing the syntax, and exports to the formats offices actually ask for. The developer spent a decade at LinkedIn, Google and Amazon and builds AI products; Marko is the editor he wanted for his own output.
