Marko collects no personal data. It has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting and no error tracking, and it sends your documents nowhere. Turn your Wi-Fi off and it behaves identically.
Everything Marko does on the network
The editor's interface makes no network calls, and its Content-Security-Policy would block them if a dependency ever tried. This is the complete list of network activity in the app.
- Opening a link
- Only when you click one. Goes to: Your browser, not Marko.
- Downloading a remote image
- Only when you save an image from a URL you supplied. Goes to: The server hosting that image.
- Checking for updates
- Direct downloads only. The Mac App Store build has no update check; the store updates it. Goes to: GitHub releases.
The Mac App Store build therefore makes no automatic network requests at all.
Your files
Documents, images and settings stay on your Mac, wherever you saved them. There is no server, no account and nothing to sync. Your documents never leave the device.
Licence keys
Direct purchases come with a licence key. Marko checks it offline, by verifying its signature on your machine: there is no licence server and no activation call. The key contains the email address you bought it with, and that address stays on your machine and is never transmitted. App Store purchases use no key at all.
Payments
Payment is handled entirely by the processor: Stripe for direct purchases, Apple for the Mac App Store. Marko never sees your card details.
Third-party software
Marko bundles Pandoc for document conversion. It runs locally as a separate program and sends nothing anywhere.
Children
Marko is a text editor rated 4+. It collects nothing from anyone, children included.
Your rights
Because the app collects nothing, there is no data about you to access, correct or erase.
Who distributes Marko
Direct downloads and Stripe purchases come from Adya Services Ltd, registered in the United Kingdom. The Mac App Store version is distributed by Aditya Gupta, as an individual, also in the United Kingdom.
